  1. What a stunningly brilliant blog – a love letter to the strength and joys of friendship and humanity. I’m so sorry for your loss but so pleased that you had such a fantastic friendship

  2. Thank you for writing this. What a fitting tribute to Stephen. I had the honour of working with him many times in the last 14 years. And whilst I was wowed by his abilities as a lawyer, I was always most staggered by his ability to be so kind and generous to those he worked with. Working with him was a privilege and I will miss him greatly. My thoughts go out to Nicola and his family.

  3. Heartfelt Richard. I am sorry about your friend. Wish you sincere consolation. This is a very good way to go about it.

  4. What a stunning piece (and anyone who uses the word lush gets a gold star from me). I met Stephen on the Introductory Course for Government Lawyers and worked with him at DTI. He was always a supportive, encouraging, kind friend and colleague. You are so right – he was totally authentic and spoke just as wisely about the joys and challenges of family life as he did about career development and the law. What a gorgeous piece and thank you for writing so beautifully, not only about your friendship but also GLD. How honoured we are to know him. My most sincere condolences to you and to his dear wife, children and family.

  5. Your words are a fitting tribute to a wonderful, kind man, full of life and love. Thank you for sharing them. Lizzy (a friend of Nicola from uni and lucky enough to have been a friend of Steve too)
